Tianjin and Guangzhou Ports: Where Your GWM Leaves China

If you are importing a used GWM vehicle from China, the total cost is not just the FOB price. It is the sum of several components: the unit price, the inland transport to a Chinese port, the ocean freight, the destination customs duty, and the final-mile delivery. This article breaks down each component and explains how the port of departure — Tianjin or Guangzhou — affects your landed cost.

We hold stock at two Chinese yards: Tianjin and Guangzhou. Both are major export hubs, but they serve different shipping routes and add different costs to your final invoice. Below is a neutral, range-based breakdown of what you should expect.

Cost Components at a Glance

Component Typical Range (USD) Notes
Unit price (FOB) Varies by model See GWM Export listings for real FOB prices
MOQ 1 unit No minimum order for most models
Tooling / sampling Usually $0 Used vehicles: no tooling cost
Inland transport to port $200–$700 Tianjin or Guangzhou yard to port
Ocean freight (RoRo) $800–$2,500 To Russia, CIS, Middle East, Africa, LatAm
Ocean freight (container) $1,200–$3,500 Shared or full container
Destination duty 5%–35% of CIF Varies by country and vehicle age
Destination port fees $300–$800 Customs broker, terminal handling
Final delivery $150–$1,000 To your door or dealer lot

All ranges are indicative. Actual costs depend on model, destination, and shipping method. For a firm quote, contact us on WhatsApp.

Unit Price (FOB)

The FOB price is the cost of the vehicle loaded onto the ship at the Chinese port. It excludes ocean freight, insurance, and destination charges. Because we source from the China domestic market, our prices reflect real used-car values, not inflated export list prices.

For example, our used GWM Cannon inventory (2019–2026) has reference FOB prices from $7,500 to $19,500. A 2019 Cannon 2.0T 4WD Elite Standard Cab with 80,000 km is listed at $10,500 FOB. A 2023 Cannon 2.0T Commercial Diesel 2WD Elite Long Bed with 27,000 km is $14,500 FOB. These are real listings with real mileage, not estimates.

For smaller models like the used GWM Good Cat (2021–2025), FOB prices range from $5,200 to $11,500. Again, each listing shows actual odometer readings and registration dates.

MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity)

We do not impose a minimum order quantity for most used vehicles. You can buy a single unit. For fleet orders, we can consolidate multiple vehicles in one container to reduce per-unit freight. Contact us for details.

Tooling and Sampling

Used vehicles do not involve tooling or sampling costs. You are buying an existing unit, so there are no molds, dies, or pre-production samples. If you are sourcing new aftermarket parts, tooling costs may apply, but that is outside our used-vehicle export service.

Inland Transport to Port

Once you confirm a vehicle, it must be moved from our yard to the port of loading. We hold stock at two yards: Tianjin and Guangzhou. The inland transport cost depends on which yard the vehicle is at and which port it sails from.

  • Tianjin yard to Tianjin Port: typically $200–$400.
  • Guangzhou yard to Guangzhou Port (Nansha or Huangpu): typically $200–$500.
  • Cross-yard moves (e.g., Guangzhou yard to Tianjin Port) are rare and expensive; we avoid them unless necessary.

Ocean Freight: RoRo vs Container

Ocean freight is the largest variable cost after the vehicle itself. Two main methods:

  • RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off): The vehicle is driven onto the ship. Cheaper for running vehicles, but schedule is fixed and exposure to weather is higher. Typical cost: $800–$2,500 depending on destination and season.
  • Container: The vehicle is loaded into a 20ft or 40ft container. Better protection, flexible scheduling, and you can share a container with other cargo. Typical cost: $1,200–$3,500.

From Tianjin, frequent RoRo services run to Russia, Kazakhstan, and other CIS markets. From Guangzhou, routes are stronger to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Your destination determines which port is more cost-effective.

Destination Duty and Taxes

Import duty is calculated on the CIF value (Cost, Insurance, Freight). Rates vary widely:

  • Russia and CIS: typically 15–25% for used passenger cars, plus VAT.
  • Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia): 5–15% customs duty, plus 5% VAT in UAE.
  • Africa (Nigeria, Kenya): 20–35% import duty, plus levies.
  • Latin America (Mexico, Chile): 10–20% depending on trade agreements.

Always check with your local customs broker. We provide the commercial invoice, bill of lading, and certificate of origin to support your clearance.

Destination Port Fees and Final Delivery

Once the vehicle arrives, you will pay terminal handling, customs broker fees, and possibly storage. Budget $300–$800. Final delivery to your door or dealership adds $150–$1,000 depending on distance.

Landed Cost Comparison: Tianjin vs Guangzhou

Let us compare two realistic scenarios for a used GWM Cannon with an FOB price of $14,500.

Cost Item Via Tianjin (to Russia) Via Guangzhou (to UAE)
FOB price $14,500 $14,500
Inland transport $300 $400
Ocean freight (RoRo) $1,800 $1,200
Insurance $150 $150
Destination duty (20% / 5%) $3,350 $813
Destination port fees $500 $500
Final delivery $400 $300
Estimated landed cost $21,000 $17,863

The difference is driven mainly by duty rates, not port choice. However, if you were shipping to Russia, Guangzhou would add extra inland transport and possibly a longer ocean route. For UAE, Tianjin would likely be more expensive due to less direct routing.

Which Port Should You Choose?

The answer depends on your destination:

  • Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus: Tianjin is usually the better choice. Direct RoRo services and shorter transit times.
  • UAE, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Kenya: Guangzhou offers more frequent sailings and competitive rates.
  • Mexico, Chile: Both ports work, but Guangzhou often has better connections to Latin America.

We will always quote you the most cost-effective route based on current schedules. Our goal is to give you a transparent landed cost, not a cheap FOB price that hides expensive freight.
